Title: Artisans of Majuli
Description: When you visit Kimargaon village on Majuli Island in Assam, you are introduced to a centuries-old pottery tradition that is both unique and deeply rooted in the local culture. The artisans use moist clay collected from the banks of the Brahmaputra River to hand-build pots without the use of a pottery wheel. Instead, they skillfully combine the techniques of pinch pots and coiling, mimicking wheel rotation using only their toes and hands. No modern tools are involved. The firing process is equally traditional: the pots are baked in wooden ovens covered with layers of mud, dung, and hay, preserving this age-old craft.
